About Us

Twin to Twin Transfusion Syndrome Australia Inc. was started by Victoria and myself, after we both suffered TTTS in our pregnancies – mine during late 1999/early 2000, and Victoria during early 2000. Neither of us had ever heard of TTTS before we were diagnosed, and after researching this condition on the Internet, we were both very concerned for our babies’ welfare. At the time, there was no one readily available to whom we could turn who had had this condition, and although our hospital was very helpful, there was no support group established within Australia specifically for TTTS. Information (particularly positive information) was quite difficult to come across, and for the most part was written in medical terms. My twin boys (both survived) were born in January 2000, and Victoria’s twin boys (recipient twin survived) were born in April 2000. We met after Victoria wrote her story and sent it in to our local multiple birth club, and have been able to provide some much-needed support to each other.

Our goals are to provide:

aleb and Joshua (Linda’s sons) with Mitchell (Victoria’s son)
  • hope to parents experiencing TTTS
  • information about the condition to the medical profession as well as the public
  • information about treatments available within Australia
  • support and an opportunity to share stories for those who have had TTTS
  • money towards treatment facilities as well as research into the condition.
  • Our dearest wish would be that we can offer support and hope to other people who experience the trauma of TTTS.

We are very pleased to have the support and encouragement of the Mater Misericordiae Hospital (Brisbane) and as of July, 2002 we have become a member group of AMBA (Australian Multiple Birth Association).
